    • More to the parts store: 20th LRS supports Shaw with aircraft equipment

      When the U.S. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon requires service, maintainers at Shaw contact the 20th Logistics Readiness Squadron materiel management flight to acquire aircraft parts to fix the problem.

      U.S. Air Force Airmen from the 20th Logistics Readiness Squadron teamed up with Soldiers from the 1-151st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion to load up AH-64E Apache for a joint forcible entry land and air operations exercise in Florida. The two-day process marked the first time U.S. Army AH-64Es were loaded into a C-5M at Shaw.

    • 25th ATKG opens new headquarters and operations facilities at Shaw

      The U.S. Air Force 25th Attack Group hosted military leaders, congressional representatives and honorary commanders from the local community at an immersion tour and ribbon cutting ceremony for their newly constructed headquarters and operations building at Shaw Air Force Base.

    • Guardian Angels and Royal Canadian Air Force SAR Techs Solidify Space Rescue Skills Through Joint Training Effort

      In a landmark effort to enhance space rescue capabilities the First Air Force (Air Forces Space), Det. 3 Instructor Cadre, conducted an extensive Rescue Force Qualification Course at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, included the Royal Canadian Air Force Search and Rescue (SAR)and Pararescue Specialist from the 38th Rescue Squadron out of Moody Air Force Base, Ga.
      Cape Canaveral SFS, April 2024 - A multinational team of rescue specialists, including three members from the Royal Canadian Air Force Search and Rescue along with Pararescue Specialist from the 38th Rescue Squadron from Moody AFB, Ga., underwent rigorous training at the Rescue Force Qualification Course taught by 1 AF, Det 3 Rescue Instructor Cadre. The course prepares rescue forces for alert posturing through comprehensive academics, ground, and water operations. Trainees are immersed in space medicine basics and trained on a practice spacecraft analogue for crew capsule functionalities, astronaut extrication techniques, and spacecraft hazard identification, culminating in capsule up-righting drills. This collaboration, requested by NASA, aims to broaden rescue capabilities for Commercial Crew Program launches and foster a closer bond between Det 3/SOC and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, streamlining communication for global rescue missions.

      The 104th Fighter Wing recently welcomed 63 inspectors from the Air Combat Command Inspector General’s office for the Wing’s Capstone Inspection which awarded the Wing an “effective” rating.

    • Fluorine-free foam flows to Air Force bases as DoD removes PFAS from firefighting activities

      Department of the Air Force installation fire departments are replacing current stocks of aqueous film forming foam, or AFFF, in fire and emergency services vehicles with a fluorine-free formulation as part of a Defense Department-wide effort to remove PFAS from firefighting activities.

      Exercise Ready Tiger 24-1 kicked off and will run April 8-19, 2024, at Moody spanning across locations in Georgia and Florida. Designed to simulate real-world scenarios, Airmen will “deploy” alongside wing inspectors to evaluate the 23rd Wing’s ability to use decentralized command and control, complete air tasking orders in geographically separated locations with degraded communication, while incorporating Agile Combat Employment principles.

    • Rescue Squadrons train together, compete at Rescue Rodeo

      For the first time, all active duty, Air National Guard and training fixed-wing rescue squadrons flying the HC-130J Combat King II joined together to compete at the Rescue Rodeo in Salina, Kansas, March 25-29, 2024.

    • Crow 01 presides over OTS graduation, commissions first wing graduate

      The U.S. Air Force’s Officer Training School (OTS) welcomed U.S. Air Force Col. Josh Koslov, 350th Spectrum Warfare Wing commander, to serve as the official reviewing officer during its graduation of class 24-07 on March 29, a first for the wing. Additionally, the 350th SWW celebrated its first OTS graduate, U.S. Air Force 2nd Lt. Ericka Woolever, as part of class 24-07.

    • 337th and 81st ACS conduct joint OCA mission in honor of women in the military

    • Special Warfare Training Wing unveils Maltz Special Warfare Aquatic Training Center

      Master Sergeant Mike Maltz was assigned to Air Combat Command's 38th Rescue Squadron, Moody Air Force Base, Georgia when he was killed in a HH-60G Pave Hawk crash on March 23, 2003, in Afghanistan. The Special Warfare Training Wing recently hosted the grand opening of the Maltz Special Warfare Aquatic Training Center at Joint Base San Antonio, Lackland-Chapman Training Annex, on Apr. 2, 2024.

      The Air Force Technical Applications Center, headquartered at Patrick Space Force Base, Fla., hosted its annual Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) Symposium March 12-13 at the Space Coast Health Foundation in Brevard County.
      Students from across Brevard County, Fla., converged at the Space Coast Health Foundation for the 2024 Women in Science and Engineering Symposium’s Student Expo March 13, 2024.  Hosted by the Air Force Technical Applications Center, the expo gave attendees the chance to engage with inspiring science, technology, engineering and math leaders, ask questions, advance mentorship opportunities, network with other students, participate in hands-on activities, and enter into STEM team-building competitions.
